About Us

The Roosevelt Network at LUC offers a platform for Leiden University College (LUC) students to engage in progressive policy discussions related to our studies on contemporary global challenges. It serves as a publication center for student-authored op-eds, policy proposals and bachelor theses. Our chapter was founded in May 2020 by Bas Jacobs and Robert Riopelle

Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance LUC’s interdisciplinary nature and to promote student-led discussions for a more equitable, just and sustainable world. With our platform, we aim to centralize student-led research and advocacy.

Aims & Scope

  • Globally oriented
  • Publish articles, op-eds and bachelor theses
  • Promote progressive policy ideas
  • Host professional networking events

What is the Roosevelt Institute?

As an affiliated chapter of the Roosevelt Network, our think tank is supported by the Roosevelt Institute—a non-partisan, liberal policy think tank established in 1987. Its mission is to promote progressive policies and values and develop bold leadership in the service of restoring liberalism’s promise of opportunity for all. It is headquartered in New York, New York.

What is the Roosevelt Network?

Found on campuses and in cities across the US, Singapore and the Netherlands, the Roosevelt Network is built on the principle that changing who writes the rules can help fulfill the ideals of democracy and build true public power. The network supports student-led, scalable policy campaigns that fight for the equitable provision, distribution, and accessibility of public goods at the campus, local, and national levels. In addition to its student-led activities, the program leverages the power of its alumni network—which includes public officials, lawyers, teachers, nonprofit executives, and researchers—to expand opportunities for the next generation of policy leaders. A program of the Roosevelt Institute, the network operates alongside leading economists and political scientists to bring the ideals of liberalism into the 21st century.
